Jurien Bay

Jurien Bay is a seaside town along the Batavia Coast in Western Australia. Facing the Indian Ocean to the west, the area forms part of Australia's western borders. The locality, which is situated along the Indian Ocean Drive, is roughly 224 kilometres north-west of Perth, the state capital. It was named by the French navigator Louis de Freycinet in honour of Charles Marie Jurien, an Administrator in the French Navy.

Although the coastline surrounding Jurien Bay had been known to Europeans as early as the 17th century, it was not until the mid-1850s that it would see its first settlers through the work of Walter Padbury, an English-born Australian. A jetty was constructed in the area in the late 1880s, around which a temporary fishing village was built later in the early 1990s. It was officially declared a town in December 1956.

With an estimated population of 1,175 residents, Jurien Bay is the largest town within Local Government Area of the Shire of Dandaragan. The community is represented in the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia by the State District of Moore, as well as by the Federal Division of Durack in the Australian House of Representatives.

Jurien Bay offers a host of attractions courtesy of its cultural, historical, and natural heritage. This variety of leisure outlets regularly draw people into the region, thereby contributing to the local economy. Some of the most notable tourism hotspots in and around the area include Grigsons Lookout, Hill River, Jurien Bay Marine Park, Jurien Bay Sea Lions, Lesueur National Park, Nambung National Park, North Head, Pinnacles Desert, Pumpkin Hollow, and Sandy Cape.

Besides its popular tourist locations, Jurien Bay is also known for its Crayfish (also known as the Western Rock Lobster) products.
